A police cadet was shot to death by her husband who then turned the gun on himself, leaving their eight-year-old son an orphan days before Thanksgiving.
Taylor Hagan, 32, was fatally shot by Briton Hagan, 41, at the Olympus Encantada apartment building in Albuquerque, New Mexico, around 4pm on Tuesday, according to police.
A neighbor contacted police after hearing a shooting and the couple were pronounced dead by cops at the scene, KRQE reported.
She was still in the Albuquerque Police Department Academy.
‘Taylor was working hard to meet the challenges of becoming an APD officer,’ police Chief Medina stated on Wednesday.
‘She chose to serve the community as a police officer and keep the community safe.’
The director of the Domestic Violence Resource Center Maria Cahuenas told KOAT: ‘Domestic violence can become lethal. In one second, it can become an argument to a murder right away. People are isolated with their offenders. They are going to have to spend more time with them.
‘People gathering together, some frustrations coming, some arguments escalating.’
