Gotta catch all the shinies (pic: Reddit)
Two useful exploits in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet make catching rare shiny Pokémon way easier than usual.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s first week hasn’t been without bugs and glitches, with some players finding the humour in them, and others demanding refunds from Nintendo.
A shiny Pokémon is extremely rare, so it’s usually a case of checking every one you come across in hopes it will display some white sparkles.
However, two new exploits have been discovered that will maximise your chance of encountering shiny Pokémon in the games – one allows you to duplicate a shiny you’ve already caught, while the other increases your chances of spawning one.
How to clone shiny pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
The first trick allows you to capture the same shiny multiple times when performed correctly. For it to work, you need to take your character to an area near an open town, or somewhere that doesn’t prompt a loading screen before you enter.
Once you manage to catch a shiny, or another Pokémon you want to duplicate, in a spot that matches these descriptions, you only need to follow a few simple steps to activate the exploit:
First, you need to walk towards the town and as soon as its name pops up on your screen, save and restart the game.
When the game loads back up, the pokémon you caught will still be in your storage, but a wild version of it will also appear in the area where you first saw it. Head back and catch it again, and you’ll get yourself a duplicate.
This exploit was first discovered by YouTuber Austin John Plays, and though it requires you to catch a shiny first it’s still worth the effort as it’s likely to get patched soon.
How to spawn shiny pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
To make use of the second trick, which gives you a better chance of spawning a shiny, you’ll need two things: a picnic table and a pokémon outbreak spot.
While you’re travelling around Paldea, you can spot a pokémon outbreak spot easily as it will be marked on the map with a blinking red icon.
Before heading there, make sure you have a pokémon that knows the False Swipe move first, as it’ll come in handy when battling shinies.
Once you’re at the outbreak, start battling the Pokémon there, and after you defeat 60 of them your shiny rate will increase to 1 out of 1,365, YouTuber PhillyBeatzU claims.
If you’re wondering where the picnic table comes into play, you’ll need to place it to cause the outbreak to de-spawn, only to respawn again when you pack it away.
When you repeatedly reset the Pokémon outbreak, you’ll take advantage of the higher spawn rate every time you do it, until you finally get a shiny.

This method is already tested and approved by PhillyBeatzU, as he encountered a shiny Drifblim after 15 resets.
Now that you know how to get your hands on some rare shinies, you better try out these farming tricks soon, before they get fixed.
You can also add a Flying Tera Type Pikachu to your Pokédex without any hassle, as it’s been given out as a Mystery Gift to anyone who doesn’t forget to claim it until next year.
