Officer who Tasered 95-year-old Australian woman suspended
The officer who Tasered a 95-year-old woman at an Australian care home has been suspended from duty. Police attended the care home after reports of Clare Nowland wandering around with a steak knife.
Nowland was walking “at a slow pace,” and with a “walking frame” but was still Tasered by police.
“She had a walking frame. But she had a knife,” Assistant Police Commissioner Peter Cotter told media on Friday.
The response from the police has faced widespread criticism with many feeling it was disproportionate. There is currently an ongoing investigation.
Ms Nowland is now receiving “end-of-life care” in the hospital after she sustained a fractured skull and a serious brain bleed after falling and striking her head.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the New South Wales (NSW) Police announced a senior constable, 33, has been suspended with pay.
