Niger coup: UK tells nationals to stay inside amid unrest
The UK government has told British nationals in Niger to stay inside and register their whereabouts with the government, as unrest sweeps the West African nation.
There has been violent unrest in Niger following a military junta seized control of the government last week.
The UK has not yet announced plans to evacuate people, and instead have simply told British nationals in the country to stay indoors. Whilst the UK government fails to react, France, Italy and Spain are all preparing rescue flights for their nationals.
The UK Foreign Office is said to be monitoring the situation and keeping its plans under review.
There is thought to be less than 100 British nationals in the country and the UK is advising against travel to the country.
It is thought that officials are liaising with other countries on the ground, including France, the former colonial power in Niger.
