N’Golo Kante is on the verge of agreeing a new contract with Chelsea, according to reports.
The 31-year-old’s current contract with Chelsea is due to expire at the end of the season and he is now free to negotiate with teams outside the Premier League to move on a free transfer in the summer.
Kante has been hampered by a hamstring injury this season, which has restricted him to making just two appearances in the Premier League this season.
Reports had initially claimed that Kante is likely to leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season but according to The Times, the World Cup-winning midfielder is now expected to agree to a new short-term contract.
The report also claims that Chelsea will hold further talks with both Mason Mount and Jorginho, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Speaking last month, Graham Potter insisted that he is keen to see Kante in action for Chelsea as the midfielder has been sidelined since August.
‘He will be a while, end of Feb, start of March,’ Potter said.
‘It was a surgery, so it is a minimum period of four months pretty much.

‘I think my focus is to help him get back fit as soon as possible, everyone knows the quality he has.
‘That is not in question, but it is about helping him get fit and back on the pitch, and looking forward to seeing him back playing football as we haven’t seen him.’
