US considers airstrikes in Afghanistan if Kabul falls to Taliban
The Times says President Biden announced in April that the US would withdraw its remaining 3,500 troops, a feat that eluded his predecessors Donald Trump and Barack Obama. About half have already left.
The Afghan military, which the US has helped train and supply, will be tasked with defending the country on its own. Biden previously suggested that the US would only carry out airstrikes targeting terrorist groups posing a threat to American interests.
