The stories dominating Wednesday’s front pages include the EU offering a new deal on the part of the Brexit deal that covers Northern Ireland — the Nothern Ireland Protocol. 

The damning Covid report into the UK’s handling of the pandemic also leads on the front pages as well as the prime minister’s decision to go on holiday when the report was released. 

Britain’s Brexit chief has told Brussels the “poison” must stop in a bid to resolve a dispute over trade in Northern Ireland, according to the Daily Express.

The Guardian splashes on an EU “olive branch” – with an offer to remove a majority of post-Brexit checks on British goods entering Northern Ireland.

The i reports the world’s largest shipping company has started diverting its super-sized cargo vessels away from Britain because of the supply chain crisis. 

The Metro leads with ministers repeatedly refusing to apologise for pandemic mistakes that “wasted tens of thousands of lives”.
