Krystsina Tsimanouskaya: Belarus athlete ‘to seek asylum’ after attempt to remove her from Tokyo Olympics
The i says a Belarusian athlete says she was taken to the airport to fly home against her will after publicly complaining about national coaches at the Tokyo Olympics.
Krystsina Tsimanouskaya, who was due to compete in the women’s 200m event on Monday, was taken to Tokyo’s Haneda airport by Belarusian officials on Sunday after her complaints on social media.
She refused to board a flight to her home nation and instead sought the protection of Japanese police, beginning an hours-long incident at the airport.
