Hungary’s LGBT laws: Europe to ‘invite’ countries to sue Budapest over anti-gay laws
The i says European Parliament is set on Wednesday to blast “in the strongest possible terms” the new Hungarian law punishing any mention of LGBTQ+ issues in school educational materials or TV shows.
In a rare move, MEPs will debate a motion to “invite” countries to sue Budapest in the European Union’s courts over the law which they say is “a clear breach of the EU values”. The vote on Thursday is expected to be a formality, as the Parliament’s big centre-left, liberal, conservative and green groups all back the measure.
