Netflix fans make U-turn on ‘train wreck’ series after vowing boycott

Netflix viewers have decided against venturing out on Valentine’s Day to watch a reality TV show they had previously sworn off.

They say love is a drug and apparently Love Is Blind is just as addictive as viewers are eagerly anticipating season 8 despite branding it a ‘trainwreck.’

Now viewers are counting down the days until the series starts in a major U-turn after threatening a boycott.

On Reddit, user SassyBonassy had previously vowed to shun Love Is Blind given ‘the catastrophic failures to cast non-heinous people’.

In agreement, a now-deleted account said: ‘What irritates me is how the entire premise of the show has been completely lost. The point of the show is for each couple to make a decision at the altar whether or not to get married. Ever since season 5 like half the couples drop out before they get to the altar. What’s the frickin point?’

Echoing their sentiment, Capable-Visual-5105 added: ‘I was just telling a friend I’m waiting for the next season to fully drop before I start it. The weekly drops make the show less interesting, I forget things along the way, and the reunion being released in the evening is just downright annoying.’

But viewers have now forgotten their previous grievances with fans raving about the start of season 8 on Instagram.

Among them was @jamp1982, who said: ‘Wow, how has it been 5 years already??! This was the show that got me through lockdown!! Happy 5th anniversary Love Is Blind, can’t wait for the new season!

@mystique__eva raved: ‘It’s a trainwreck, but I would be the first on Netflix come February 14th because I am obsessed with this show.’

Echoing their sentiment, @k8theearthling said: ‘THANK GOD!!!!! finally some good news in these dark times.’

@_bilki_s enthused: ‘Yaaayyyy, can’t wait 💃💃…at least, something to do on Val’s day.’

@itslindskay added: ‘Can’t wait! This is hands down my guilty pleasure show!’

The social experiment series, hosted by Vanessa and Nick Lachey, has been streaming on Netflix since 2020.

It follows 15 men and women who date each other in windowless ‘pods’ where they can talk via a speaker.

Based on the strength of the chat alone, the daters can decide to get down on one knee and if the proposal is accepted, they meet face-to-face for the first time.

Next up in their whirlwind romance, they tick off another major milestone by moving in together and begin planning their wedding.

Last year, a UK version of Love Is Blind landed on Netflix, presented by Matt and Emma Willis.

Love Is Blind has seen spin-offs in countries including Brazil, Germany, Japan Sweden, Argentina, Mexico, and the UAE.

Love Is Blind season 8 premieres on Netflix on Friday, February 14.
