The trial of Marieha Hussain is a deeply shameful chapter in the state’s ongoing attempted suppression of pro-Palestinian peace activists. A grave injustice has been avoided with her not guilty verdict.
Marieha Hussain, 37, a teacher from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire denied the charge at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
She carried a picture showing the faces of the then Prime Minister and Home Secretary superimposed on coconuts under a palm tree in November 2023.
Her defence said the placard was not racist, but satirical and humorous.
A major blow for the Government
Ms Hussain’s defence described the decision to bring the court case as a disturbing attack on the right to freedom of expression and peaceful protest.
This case comes as major blow for the Tories and the current Starner administration. Starmer was expected to take a similar stance to Tories on the protests but now he wil lhave to think of a different strategy. More protests are planned and with this current victory for the Pro-palestinians they are expected to be bigger and more impactful.
In a prepared statement read to the court by the prosecution, she said the placard was in opposition to an “exceptional manifestation of hatred towards vulnerable or minority groups emanating from the home secretary and supported by the prime minister”.
An image on the other side of the placard depicted the former home secretary as “Cruella Braverman”, Ms Hussain said in a statement, adding: “I find it astonishing it could be conceived as a message of hate.”
Mr Menon said Ms Hussain was a woman of “impeccable character”, adding: “It would be a tragedy – I use that word advisedly – for her to be convicted of a racially aggravated offence when she quite obviously does not have a racist bone in her body.”
What really happened?
The Met Police were under severe pressure by the Tory government, In particularly Suella Braverman and Priti Patel, to force arrests and impede the peaceful demonstrations.
These protests were making an impact and attracted the like of Jeremy Corbyn and the Palestinian ambassador Husam Zumlot. This outraged the zionists supporters, who had to stop the growing campaign supporting the Palestinians which literally went global. Boycotts in the UK and around the world have impacted the worth of many household brands.
Muslim Teacher found not guilty after Zionist led agenda
So first, the Zionists started with social media, employing hateful and dangerous rhetoric to threaten people who supported Palestine. They even paid social media influencers to post at how the protests were threatening their safety and the likes of Rachel Riley would travel to the protests and then post that were endangered.
When the impact of that backfired, the zionists rallied thugs, like Tommy Robinson (a thug for hire) to disrupt and cause carnage to force the police to stop the protests. But that failed and with growing awareness on social media the government had to act and was forced to create a narrative for illegal arrests which this week the courts dismissed.
Marieha becomes the face of free speech
The coconut placard went viral, liked by thousands of people and shared all over the world. Becoming a spectacle and embarrassment for Tory government. Despite the democratic rights of ‘free speech’ the Home Secretary went on personal vindictive mission.
She sought immediate meetings with Met police and forced their hand. The Metropolitan Police ‘pushed’ by the Home Secretary Suella Braverman ( a Zionist advocate and sympathiser) were forced to make arrests and began the search for the woman in the image was being sought in relation to a hate crime.
After a two-day trial, judge ruled that the placard was “part of the genre of political satire”.
District judge Vanessa Lloyd said: “As such, the prosecution have not proved to the criminal standard that it was abusive.
The impact on her life has been devastating
Marieha Hussain has lost her job, and targeted on social media from radical organised groups online. Especially Israeli social media warriors; The Israeli army employees a squadron of social media activists whose job it is to target and attack Pro-Palestinian people with threats and abuse.
“I must start by thanking God for giving me the patience and strength to withstand the trials and tribulations of the last 10 months. It has led me to my outstanding legal team who defended me, who have advocated for me and academics, like Nels Abbey, who have supported me.
Despite the pressure from the CPS and the police, Judge Vanessa Lloyd has seen through this politicised prosecution and I have found some justice today. The damage to my reputation and image can never be undone but I am proud to have defended the principle that our language and political critique is not illegal.
Instead of enjoying my pregnancy, I have been vilified in the media, lost my career & dragged through the court system in what can only be described as a politically motivated show trial.”
