Artist behind 70s hit Mr Big Stuff, Jean Knight, has died aged 80 from natural causes confirms family.

The soul singer’s death was announced by her publicist in a statement from her family which was circulating online and then verified by TMZ.

Knight rose to fame in the 1970s, reaching the number two spot in the Billboard 100 with her smash hit song along with other chart successes.

The statement read: ‘Jean Knight’s legacy is not just a musical one; it is a testament to the enduring love between an artist, her hometown, and the fans who adored her.

‘As we bid farewell to this iconic soulstress, New Orleans and her global fan base join together in gratitude for the indelible mark she left on the world.

The family has asked for privacy at this time but added they ‘express heartfelt gratitude for the love and support from fans.’
