A World Cup employee in Qatar has become an early fan favourite of the tournament – judging by the TikTok videos made in his honour.
The staff member, perched atop a lifeguard-esque chair, has been tasked with directing football fans to a nearby Metro station.
Armed with a foam finger and megaphone, he repeatedly can be heard calling out ‘metro, metro, metro’ to passing crowds.
Countless videos now scatter TikTok, with some football fans even spotted leaning in to his megaphone to have a go at his token phrase.
The ‘Metro guy’ has amassed thousands of views online.
One TikTok user wrote: ‘Saw him today, he really changed everybody’s mood, everyone was smiling.’
‘I think this guy is more famous than Messi now’, another added.

The build-up to the fixture was dominated by the FA’s decision to stop Harry Kane from wearing a OneLove armband.
On Monday, a joint statement from seven European nations who had signed up to the campaign – which included England and Wales – confirmed the rainbow armbands will no longer be worn due to fear of a yellow card being issued.
TV presenter and football legend Alex Scott was later spotted sporting the rainbow armband as an act of defiance against Qatar’s stance on LGBTQ+ issues.
