Metro – Free him and he’ll kill a child again
The Metro leads on the news that James Bulger’s murderer has again been granted a parole hearing. Jon Venables, 41, who killed the two-year-old in 1993 aged 10 along with Robert Thompson, will “kill a child again” James’ mother, Denise Fergus, told the parole panel.
Venables has been in and out of prison several times since his initial release in 2001. The hearing will decide whether or not he could be eligible for an early release.
Venables was previously freed on licence and given lifelong anonymity, but in 2017 was jailed again for having child abuse images on his computer. The paper quotes Fergus, who told the parole panel: “When you look at Venables’s file just remember what he is capable of.”
