Meredith Mickelson, Matty Healy’s ex-girlfriend, was ‘blindsided’ by his romance with Taylor Swift, it is claimed.

Those in the 23-year-old model’s ‘inner circle’ are said to be ‘angry’ about the way the 1975 frontman treated Atlanta-born Meredith and have claimed Matty, 34, was holed up at her house just ‘weeks’ before going public with Taylor, 33.

Matty and Meredith are said to have been dating as recently as February, at which point he was allegedly visiting Taylor at her recording studio.

A source close to Meredith said this week: ‘She did not see this coming at all. All the time Matty was in the studio with Taylor, she thought nothing of it. He’d spend the day in the studio and then come home to her.

‘Things were going well until around March 29 then, out of the blue, he stopped replying to messages and calls.’

They added to the Mirror: ‘He just ghosted her and that was it. Then, four weeks later, he went public with Taylor. She was totally blindsided.’

The source also said that friends Meredith confided in are ‘quite angry with how Matty treated her’.

Popstar Taylor has been engulfed in rumours of a romance with Matty lately, following her split from boyfriend of six years Joe Alwyn.

They have been spotted together multiple times since speculation began that they are an item.

Sources have also claimed to have seen them ‘cuddling and kissing’, while Matty has even bonded with Taylor’s dad while watching her live shows.

Taylor is yet to make a direct comment on the whole thing, but a speech at her latest concert implied things are going pretty well between them.

Ahead of singing a surprise song – which Taylor does twice every night, the perks of having a massive discography – she told the Massachusetts crowd that she’s ‘never been happier’.

‘I want you all to know that I’ve never been this happy in my life, in all aspects of my life, ever before,’ she said.

‘And I just wanna thank you for being a part of that,’ she sweetly added to her adoring fans.

‘It is not just the tour, I just, I don’t know… I feel like for the first time everything makes sense.

‘So, I’m gonna play this song. It just brings me so many happy memories.’

She proceeded to play Question…? on guitar, a track from her most recent chart-topping album, Midnights.
