Matthew Hayden and Allan Border were left ‘shell-shocked’ as India beat Australia inside three days for the second Test in a row to retain the Border-Gavaskar trophy.
India thrashed the tourists by an innings and 132 runs in the series opener but the second Test was evenly poised with Australia leading by one run after the first innings.
The tourists resumed on 61-1 on day three but any hope of an Australia win soon disappeared as India took nine wickets for 48 runs.
Ravindra Jadeja was responsible for seven of those wickets, with Australia at one stage losing four wickets for no runs as only two players reached double figures.
Australia’s collapse left India needing 115 to win and they knocked off the runs with relative ease to secure a six-wicket win.
India now have an unassailable 2-0 lead in the four-match series and claim the Border-Gavaskar trophy for the fourth series in a row.
Speaking on Fox Cricket, former Australia captain Border said he was ‘angry’ and ‘shell-shocked’ by the manner of the defeat.

‘I’m angry about the way they went about it today,’ he said. ‘It was panicky, frenetic batting. Nobody got in there to stem the flow with some good defensive cricket.
‘They were all just getting out playing sweep shots, reverse sweeps to just about every ball. You can’t get away with that on that sort of track. You’ve got to have a method.’
Ex-Australia opener Hayden added: ‘Well, I can’t believe what I’ve witnessed here. What we’ve seen here is a disaster for Australia.
‘These are world-class players, and they had everything to win and everything to lose in that session.
‘They did it so well last night in those few overs. Strong scoring rate, good defence, proactive batting.
‘But what we’ve seen today is a disaster for Australia. They’ve gone way over the edge in terms of their aggressive play.’

Pat Cummins, meanwhile, admitted his Australia team were ‘hurting’ after they slipped to an embarrassing defeat in Delhi.
‘This one is particularly disappointing, having been ahead of the game for a lot of it,’ he said. ‘Those opportunities don’t come often in India, so you’ve got to grab them. This one hurts a bit.’
Despite Australia’s poor performances in India, they still look set to qualify for the World Test Championship final in June, where they will likely play India.
