Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount would prefer a move to Manchester United over Arsenal and Liverpool should he leave Stamford Bridge this summer.
Mount’s contract in west London expires at the end of next season and while incoming manager Mauricio Pochettino is eager to keep him at the club, there has been no progress in extending his contract.
Mikel Arteta is eager to sign the England international, viewing him as an option to slot in on the left side of his midfield, while Liverpool were thought to be leading the race to sign the 24-year-old.
Interest from Old Trafford has also emerged however with The Athletic reporting Mount is ‘leaning towards’ a move to United.
Erik ten Hag’s side are preparing an opening offer of £55million for the midfielder. Chelsea reportedly value the player at a huge £85m, despite his dwindling contract.
The report adds talks between United and Chelsea are expected to begin in due course, with Mount’s other suitors aware of his current preference.
United’s top priority this summer is to bring in a new striker with ten Hag said to be ‘obsessed’ with signing Tottenham star Harry Kane. There also remains a lack of clarity over the club’s ownership with a preferred bidder set to be named this week.
