Martin Lewis has a simple message for anyone who hates listening to novelty songs, after he came on board to lend his vocals to LadBaby’s latest Christmas single.
This year, social media stars and charity campaigners Mark Hoyle – known by his internet pseudonym LadBaby – and his wife Roxanne Hoyle have reworked the iconic Band Aid song Do They Know it’s Christmas for a new track called Food Aid.
The single, which is due to be released on Friday December 16, will feature Martin as well as several other musical guests as they strive to raise awareness and money to help people suffering from hunger and poverty.
On Tuesday’s This Morning, the money saving expert spoke to co-hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary about the song and his motivation for being involved.
After it was said that he was releasing a single, the 50-year-old immediately clarified, stating: ‘I’m not releasing a single, I just went and sang a little bit on theirs a few weeks ago.’
He then put out a message to anyone averse to novelty songs, emphasising how they can still do their bit to raise money for charity if they have the means.

‘I suspect there are many people who hate that concept of me singing and don’t like novelty songs, in which case just donate to the charity anyway. You don’t have to buy it for me. But I did feel it was a good opportunity,’ he said.
Martin then stressed how ‘difficult’ a year many people are going through amid the cost of living crisis.
‘Over 50% of people who go into citizens’ advice bureaus at the moment are deficit budgeting, which means even if once their expenditure has been reduced to the minimum, they still have less income than the minimum expenditure,’ he outlined.
‘Food bank demand is very high, which is why the song is in aid of food banks. Most important to raise awareness, but also to raise some cash, which is why, as I say, if you don’t want to buy it and you don’t want to hear it, don’t listen to it!’

He added that if anyone has any ‘spare cash’ – while adding that ‘many people don’t obviously’ – then he encouraged them to donate towards food banks, including The Trussell Trust, one of the charities benefited from the charity single.
The other 50% of proceeds is set to go towards Band Aid.
LadBaby’s Food Aid song was rewritten with kind permission from Bob Geldof, Midge Ure and the Band Aid Trust.
Mark and Roxanne of LadBaby said: ‘We never intended to release a fifth Christmas single, but as ambassadors of the Trussell Trust we were not prepared to sit back and do nothing in a year when people are struggling more than ever.’
In 2021, Mark and Rozanna collaborated with Ed Sheeran and Sir Elton Johnon their song Sausage Rolls For Everyone.
Their previous tracks include I Love Sausage Rolls, a switched-up take on Joan Jett’s I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll, while they also released Don’t Stop Me Eatin’, a spin on Journey’s Don’t Stop Believin’.
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
