Atletico Madrid approached Manchester United over the availability of Victor Lindelof, but it was dismissed as Erik ten Hag wants to keep hold of the centre-back.
The 28-year-old has certainly not been first choice since the Dutchman took over, making just four Premier League starts so far this season, with two more appearances off the bench.
Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez have been the preferred partnership at centre-back, while Harry Maguire has fallen down the pecking order and even Luke Shaw has been brought in to play in the middle of defence.
However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Ten Hag does not want to lose Lindelof and the Red Devils have turned down the Atletico Madrid approach for him as a result.
Atletico Madrid are looking at centre-back options as Wolves are pushing for a move for their central defender Felipe.
The Spanish side have moved on from Lindelof and are now hopeful of bringing in Leicester City’s Caglar Soyuncu.
While Lindelof may not be a regular in the first team it is no surprise that Ten Hag wants to keep his squad together as they compete on four fronts this season.
Manchester United made it six victories on the spin with a 3-0 win over Charlton in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday, which followed a 3-1 win over Everton in the third round of the FA Cup.
The Red Devils return to Premier League action on Saturday with the Manchester derby while they are back on the road in Europe next month against Barcelona in the knockout play-off round.
