Manchester United have been strongly linked with a summer move for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, but they will reportedly face competition from Premier League rivals Arsenal and Newcastle United.
The 24-year-old has been one of the standout forwards in Serie A since moving to Naples in 2020 from Lille, netting 36 times in 65 league games.
He is the best goal-scorer of all so far this campaign, with his 12 Serie A strikes three more than anyone else in the division.
Napoli are riding high at the top of the Premier League, nine points clear from their nearest rivals AC Milan, so there is no question that Osimhen will leave in January, but bids are expected to come in when the summer transfer window opens.
The Nigerian forward has been touted as the answer to Manchester United’s problems up front, while Naples-based publication Il Mattino report, via Goal, that Arsenal and Newcastle are also interested in his services.
Osimhen will certainly not come cheaply, though, with the report suggesting that Napoli would want around £133m for their star striker.
Whether they can extract that kind of sum from suitors is yet to be seen, with Osimhen’s contract only expiring in 2025, but with the clubs interested a bidding war could ensue.
The man himself spoke last month about his future, saying that he is not thinking about leaving Napoli, but if they were to win a trophy then things could change.
‘It’s one of the best clubs in Europe and I want to win here,’ Osimhen told Il Mattino in December.
‘The future is this moment, try to win something relevant in Italy. It’s hard to think about something better than Napoli, one of the best clubs in Italy, right now I am only focused on this season because we haven’t done anything yet. We must win something and then we’ll see what happens.’
