Martin Dubravka is set to return to Newcastle United at the end of the season after Manchester United decided against signing the goalkeeper on a permanent basis.
The 33-year-old joined the Red Devils in a season-long loan deal in August for a fee of around £2m, with United covering his wages during his time at Old Trafford.
The Slovak was signed to provide back-up to David De Gea following Dean Henderson’s move to Nottingham Forest.
However, Dubravka’s made just one start for the club and United are already eyeing a replacement next summer, according to ESPN.
Jan Sommer, the Swiss goalkeeper, is United’s first choice as he will be available on a free transfer in July.

United will therefore allow Dubravka to return to the north-east, instead of attempting to sign the 33-year-old on a permanent basis.
The interest in Sommer raises question marks about De Gea’s long-term future at the Theatre of Dreams.
De Gea’s contract expires at the end of the season, though the club are likely to trigger a 12-month extension clause in his deal.

However, they are yet to discuss a new deal with the Spaniard over staying at the club.
Ten Hag wants his goalkeeper to build play from the back and though De Gea has made improvements in this regard, he does not excel with the ball at his feet.
