A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a child suffered serious injuries and died in hospital.
Emergency services rushed to a property in Darlington, County Durham, at around 9am on Friday where the youngster was found in a critical condition.
Police, paramedics and an air ambulance were pictured at the scene in Frosterley Drive.
The child was rushed to hospital but could not be saved.
Durham Constabulary arrested a man on suspicion of murder today, while a woman has also been detained in connection with the death.
‘Sadly, the child passed away this afternoon,’ a police spokesperson said today.
‘A man in his 30s has also been arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing serious injury to a child, and has been further arrested for murder.
‘A woman in her 40s has been arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing serious injury to a child.
‘Both remain in police custody while further inquiries are carried out.’
