A man has died after being hit by a police car in Scotland.
The 62-year-old had been walking on Almond Link Road in Livingston when he was struck around 10.15pm on Boxing Day.
Emergency services rushed to the town after receiving reports of a collision involving a marked police car and a pedestrian.
The 62-year-old was taken to the Royal Infirmary hospital in Edinburgh and was pronounced dead a short time later.
Meanwhile the male driver and sole occupant of the police car did not require medical treatment.
An investigation has been launched by the Police Investigations and Reviews Commissioner (PIRC) following the crash.
The organisation investigates incidents involving the police and independently reviews the way the police handle complaints from the public.
Senior Investigator Steven Carr, of the PIRC, said: ‘Our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of the man who died.
‘Our investigation into the circumstances of this incident is continuing, and I would urge any drivers with dash cam footage, or anyone who witnessed the collision, to please contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting reference 3422 of 26 December 2022 or alternatively the PIRC during office hours on 01698 542900.’
According to the PIRC, the 62-year-old man has not been formally identified however his next of kin have been advised.
The road was re-opened around 4.30am following enquiries at the scene.
