Luke Shaw has backed Erik ten Hag’s decision to drop Marcus Rashford after Manchester United’s 1-0 victory over Wolves on Saturday.
Rashford was expected to keep his place in the side for United’s trip to Wolves but Ten Hag revealed before the game that the 25-year-old was named as a substitute due to an ‘internal disciplinary’ issue.
After a difficult opening 45 minutes, Rashford was brought on at half time and went on to score the winner for United with 14 minutes remaining.
When asked about Ten Hag’s strict discipline at United, Shaw insisted it was a welcome change and feels his teammates ‘got away with silly little things’ in the past.
‘At a top club like this it has to be like that,’ Shaw told BT Sport.
‘I think people can’t do whatever they want.

‘Maybe that’s been part of the problem in the past where people were getting away with silly little things.
‘The manager takes all of that into consideration. Like you’ve seen today, I think if you’re not keeping standards high then you won’t play.’

Shaw also believes Rashford, who has now scored six goals in the Premier League this season, can become one of the world’s best forwards at United.
‘He is in a really good way at the moment, extremely confident, very positive, very happy and it’s nice to see it,’ said Shaw.
‘Everyone knows the quality he’s got, he is world class and he can be one of the best players in the world if he keeps going. Hopefully he does do that.’
