Lionel Messi has been named BBC Sports Personality’s World Sport Star of the year after Argentina’s World Cup 2022 win against France.
The footballer, 35, led his country to their first World Cup victory in 36 years in Qatar on Sunday night.
Messi scored twice in the final match of the international tournament, as well as shooting a penalty in the shootout, with Argentina going on to beat France 4-2 on penalties after a nail-biting 3-3 draw.
