Lies Of P – will there be a demonic looking whale for fans to fight? (Picture: Neowiz Games)
Unlike Bloodborne, Lies Of P is already getting a sequel after selling 1 million copies in less than two months.
Korean studio Neowiz Games’ Pinocchio themed stab at the Soulsborne genre, Lies Of P, has proven to be a major hit, having sold 1 million copies since its September 19 launch.
The game was heavily inspired by FromSoftware’s Bloodborne and such sales would normally be enough to ensure a sequel… and that’s exactly what’s happening. Not even two months after launch, Lies Of P 2 is already confirmed to be in development.
The news was dropped via a director’s letter video from Ji Won Choi, who mentioned it so casually you’d think it had already been announced beforehand.
‘Our highest priority is developing the DLC and working on our sequel,’ says Choi. DLC had been confirmed last month, courtesy of job listings at Neowiz which specifically mentioned DLC plans for Lies Of P.
Choi also shows off a piece of concept art for the DLC, depicting protagonist Pinocchio on what looks like a ruined ship at sea.
Given the game’s inspirations, our first guess is that the DLC will involve the Terrible Dogfish, aka the giant sea monster that ate Pinocchio in the original, which was replaced by Monstro the whale in the Disney adaptation.
‘I can promise you one thing. What I just showed you scratches merely the tip of an iceberg,’ adds Choi, perhaps teasing that this will be a sizable expansion.
The rest of the video thanks fans for their support and details an upcoming patch that will arrive by the end of the month.
As for what the sequel could entail, Lies Of P’s post credits scene does provide a pretty blatant hint for what Neowiz has in mind (spoilers inbound so feel free to leave if you haven’t beaten the game yet).

The post credits scene features a character who says Pinocchio holds one of the keys to eternal life and that a girl called Dororthy may hold another. We then see a girl wearing red shoes on a rooftop, and she clicks her heels three times.
Clearly, Neowiz wants to turn The Wizard Of Oz into a Soulsborne game next, although whether Dorothy herself will take over as protagonist is unclear.
Either way, Lies Of P fans are thrilled with the news, although this unintentionally serves as a bitter reminder that Bloodborne still lacks any sort of follow-up.
If Sony’s reading this, we’d like to remind you that Bloodborne sold a million units within roughly the same timeframe as Lies Of P did. If that could get a sequel, there seems little reason for Bloodborne 2 not to be a thing.
Lies Of P is available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
