The pair are closely linked but Lewis Hamilton is not currently involved in Jim Ratcliffe’s attempt to buy Manchester United.
Ratcliffe, who is one of Britain’s richest men and a Manchester United fan, is making a move to buy the Red Devils from the Glazer family.
The chairman and CEO of Ineos has a connection with Hamilton as his company is a one-third shareholder in the Mercedes F1 team the Brit drives for.
Hamilton and Ratcliffe have become close, with the seven-time F1 world champion asked in September about working with the 70-year-old in a proposed United takeover.
‘Jim is part-boss and part-partner. I’d say we’re more partners because we’re in this together,’ he said.
‘I hope in the future to do something with Jim and build with him. I don’t know when that will be or what that will be.
‘But I do want to get more and more involved in teams because I really do believe in black ownership and black equity, because there is a real lack of that in sport.’
Hamilton has made his interest in sports ownership concrete as he was part of Martin Broughton’s attempt to buy Chelsea when they were for sale last year. Instead he has bought a stake in Denver Broncos.
However, the Independent report that Hamilton is not involved with Ratcliffe’s current bid to buy Manchester United, despite rumours suggesting otherwise.
The club was put up for sale in November by the Glazer family, with Ratcliffe becoming the first party to publicly declare an interest.
‘We have formally put ourselves into the process,’ a spokesman for Ratcliffe told The Times.
