Lewis Capaldi – or, sorry – is that Sam Capaldi? (Picture: Getty Images)
Lewis Capaldi wasn’t too offended after being mistaken for ‘Sam Capaldi’ at the Brit Awards, and was even among the first to joke about it on social media.
Viewers at this year’s Brits, which aired on ITV1 on Saturday night, were completely baffled when host Mo Gilligan introduced the Scottish singer as ‘Sam Capaldi’.
The shot then cut to Lewis, 26, performing his single Forget Me and it seems Mo, 34, did just that as viewers were itching to know just who on earth ‘Sam Capaldi’ was and whether he had made an on-air blunder or a poorly executed joke.
Well, Lewis was clearly very amused by the mishap, much like everyone else, and poked fun at the awkward situation in an Instagram post.
During the live show, he shared a photo of Sam Smith – who his name was likely mixed up with – on the Brits red carpet wearing their outlandish outfit and his face replaced with Lewis’ head Photoshopped on top.
‘Sam Capaldi x,’ the singer cheekily captioned the post.

Mo himself joked about his mistake in his Instagram stories, writing: ‘Me: Give it up for Sam Capaldi’ and ‘everyone:’ alongside a meme of Keke Palmer saying: ‘I hate to say it, I hope I don’t sound ridiculous because I don’t know who this man is.
‘He could be walking down the street, I wouldn’t even know a thing. Sorry to this man.’
During the show, the presenter later addressed the gag and told viewers: ‘I have to apologise, I did call him Sam – it just goes to show how strong the drinks are at the Brits. They’re not playing around!’
Social media was lit up with jokes about the sure-to-be classic Brits moment, with many even comparing it to John Travolta introducing Idina Menzel as ‘Adele Dazeem’ at the Oscars.
The Brits was a star-studded – and chaotic event – with Harry Styles winning four awards and sharing a celebratory kiss with Lewis, while Sam Smith and Kim Petras delivered a striking performance of their controversial number one single Unholy.
