Former Love Island host Laura Whitmore has revealed police told her to ‘expect’ a terrifying stalking ordeal she faced eight years ago because of her line of work.
The 38-year-old is returning to her investigative journalism roots with a new ITV series exploring serious issues women face.
The documentary series sees Laura explore incels, rough sex and cyber stalking – the latter of which she has a personal story relating to.
Appearing on Tuesday’s BBC Breakfast, the Celebrity Juice star explained: ‘For me, this was something I really wanted to talk about, and a lot of these things, sometimes you’re too scared to.
‘I had a stalking appearance, years ago and I was almost afraid to talk about it because there’s embarrassment.’
She continued: ‘When I went to police at that time, it was a long time ago, I was told “Oh it’s kind of expected with the kind of job you have.”
‘And then you’re a bit mortified and don’t say anything else.’
Laura went on to say that her three documentaries showing the ‘darker side’ of humanity were things she felt she ‘needed’ to talk about.

She said: ‘Because if we don’t talk about these things, it won’t get better.’
Elsewhere during the BBC interview, Laura made a cheeky quip referring to her time on Love Island.
Talking about whether this was a ‘different’ side to her, she said: ‘It’s always been there.
‘I just walk a little bit faster on this show than I do on other shows.’
Laura, who is married to Love Island narrator Iain Stirling, had been commenting on baffling reactions to her ‘slow walk’ on the ITV2 dating programme.

During her time fronting the programme, before Maya Jama took over, Laura faced mockery over her famous ‘slow walk’ as she entered the villa to deliver – more often than not – crushing news for the islanders.
The radio presenter, who went on to star in the West End show 2:22 A Ghost Story, was left absolutely baffled by the complaint she received about her slowed-down strut.
‘I got a complaint because I’m so selfish, I make the whole show about me because I walk so slow,’ she told The Independent.
She added: ‘Someone actually wrote in! I walk normal pace. They slow it down!’
