Queen Elizabeth II told a screenwriter she was ‘used to playing the Queen all the time’ after she was complimented on her special Platinum Jubilee film with Paddington Bear.
Simon Farnaby, who co-wrote Paddington 2, said after he complimented the late monarch on her acting skills, she simply replied: ‘Well, I do it all the time.’
The pair acted together in a small film which showed the Queen taking afternoon tea with Paddington.
She even offered the bear a marmalade sandwich out of her handbag.
Mr Farnaby, who played a footman in the film, said the Queen successfully delivered her lines by imagining she was talking to her grandchildren.
Speaking on Richard Herring’s Leicester Square Theatre Podcast, said: ‘[At first] the director would come in and say: ‘”Ma’am could you just be a bit gentler? Like you’re talking to your grandchildren”.
‘I was saying to him: “Just give up, just stop, we’re not going to get it.” And he said: “No, I think just a couple more”.
‘But it was okay in the end. It was really sweet and really lovely.’

Although Mr Farnaby said ‘it was a very speacial thing to be a part of’ there were some crossed wires when he spoke to the late monarch about her performance.
He said: ‘I needlessly just went up to her and said: “Ma’am, that was fantastic”.
‘I went: “You’re a very good actress.” And she said: “Well of course, I do it all the time”.
‘She said: “You know I am the Queen? Paddington’s not real, they’re actors, but I am the Queen”.
‘”I meant at Christmas, when I do my speeches. But then it’s all written down you see and now I have to remember it and I find it quite hard.”‘
