The 3Cat Marathon, which this year is dedicated to research into respiratory diseases, has raised a total of 3.25 million euros until just before 9 p.m. to be used for this purpose. On the occasion of its Marató, 3Cat has planned a programming of almost 17 hours live on TV3, Catalunya Ràdio, the 3Cat platform and social networks.
This year, La Marató aims to raise funds for scientific research into respiratory diseases and raise awareness among the population about their causes, symptoms and prevention, as well as the importance of maintaining air quality and the risk of smoking. In Catalonia, two million people currently live with a respiratory health problem and one in four dies from a respiratory disease.
The president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, several councilors of the Government, the president of the Parliament, Josep Rull, as well as politicians from different political formations have been some of the personalities who have collaborated with this solidarity initiative by answering calls for donations.
Illa assured that respiratory diseases are the third cause of mortality in Catalonia and added that in some cases “they can be avoided with a healthy lifestyle.” As an example, the president He has explained that he was a smoker but that he gave up this addiction. “It costs a little, but it can be done,” Illa assured in her speech on the program.
For this edition, 3cat has set up four sets: in Terrassa (the central one), on the island of Gràcia, in the Ebro; in Girona; and in La Seu d’Urgell.
