Kirstie Allsopp has become known for her divisive comments – and she’s sure to spark debate once again with her views on how university students can afford their own house.
The TV presenter, 51, reckons students should think about living at home during their uni years so they can save for a deposit.
Kirstie has hosted her fair share of property shows in her career, including Location, Location, Location, Love It or List It UK, Relocation, Relocation, and Location Revisited.
Sharing her opinions on how the youth of today can afford to become property owners, she was asked whether now was a good time to buy a property, what with the cost of living on the rise.
She told Ruth Davidson on Times Radio: ‘So, in answer your question, “Is there ever a good time to buy?”, I think it’s just about doing what you can when you can, but I always say, if the one favour you can do to yourself is to think about it early, as early as you possibly can.’
Kirstie continued: ‘If you choose to go to university, near your home, and you spend those three years living at home, if you’re able to do that, and it’s a big sacrifice to do that, but it can make an enormous difference.

‘And all sorts of different things that you can do to enable you to save that deposit. And do it early. Because I see people really, really struggling now.’
She added: ‘Don’t get me wrong. There are loads of people who don’t want to buy. I mean we have a weird, weird relationships with property in the UK where we think everybody wants to buy.
‘There are some people who don’t, they don’t want the responsibility. They want to be able to make rapid lifestyle changes. And they want to rent. That is now incredibly difficult as well.
‘But for those who do want to buy, it’s very hard.’

This is far from the first time Kirstie’s comments on property have sparked debate, as she famously made headlines in February this year when discussing how young people could easily buy a home.
Kirstie claimed that if they gave up luxuries like ‘easyJet, coffee, gym [and] Netflix’, youngsters can ‘of course’ afford to get onto the property ladder.
She said some people weren’t willing to make ‘sacrifices’ and admitted she was ‘enraged’ when people said they couldn’t afford to buy a home.

In a column for The Times, Kirstie – whose family helped her to buy her first home at the age of 21 – also, once again, suggested that young adults move back in with their parents.
Her words were met with instant criticism, with some readers accusing it of being condescending, privileged, or completely out of touch considering the stratospheric rise in house prices in recent years.
