Kings of Leon playing Wrexham? What an iconic collaboration of people and place (Picture: Getty Images )
In a combination of stars we never knew we needed until this moment, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have announced Wrexham AFC’s stadium will host none other than the Kings of Leon in May.
The band, composed of Tennessee brothers Caleb Followill, Nathan Followill and Jared Followill and their cousin Matthew Followill, will be hitting up The Racecourse Ground for two days of performances on May 27 and 28.
This is surely fate, as the two spring nights will see a collab between one of the biggest rock bands of our time, Marvel megastar Ryan, comedy legend Rob and the world’s oldest used international football pitch.
Now that’s what you call iconic.
The announcement came on the Kings of Leon’s official HQ page, and it had fans in a tizz.
One said what everyone was thinking: ‘Ryan, Rob and KOL the trio I didn’t know I needed in my life but now want more content 😂😍’

This comes after the Hollywood pair swooped in to buy Wrexham AFC in early 2021 for a chunky £2million.
The stars have since made a documentary about their journey to football club ownership, and the challenges they face – which initially included a whole load of perplexed Welsh fans.
But the pair are certainly bringing some pazazz to the town, which has a population of 135,000 – many of whom are dedicated Wrexham fans.
Kings of Leon’s official page posted a video of Ryan and Rob announcing the event in a very, er, Ryan and Rob way.
The 46-year-old Deadpool star began in a chatty tone and said, ‘This Wednesday is St David’s Day,’ to which the 45-year-old It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia star responded, ‘Happy almost St David’s Day’.

‘You may not know about it but it’s a huge deal in Wales,’ Ryan continued, as Rob chimed in: ‘St David is the patron Saint of Wales, and this week in Wales you can expect to see daffodils and leeks and hear a lot of singing.’
In what was a pretty random segue into announcing the concert, Ryan teased: ‘Okay let’s listen to a traditional Welsh song’.
What ensued was a dramatic video of a Welsh flag flapping in the wind and Kings of Leon’s hit song Someone Like You blasted over the footage.
‘I know what you’re thinking, that’s Kings of Leon. Not a traditional Welsh song,’ pointed out Captain Obvious, aka, Rob, before announcing the news: ‘On May 27th and May 28th of this year, Kings of Leon will be playing at the Racecourse Ground.’
Ryan clarified: ‘That is a major band playing at Wrexham’s football stadium, Rob.’
Funny man Rob then got the admin out the way and explained how pre-sale will start on St David’s Day (March 1), while general sale starts on Friday March 3.
But it won’t all be glamorous US stars on stage, as Rob also announced ‘Wrexham’s own’ Declan Swans will also be performing.
Ryan expressed his wish for them to sing ‘our song’, before the post cut to the Welsh band singing what we can only assume was that very track, as they sang: ‘Bring on the Deadpool, and Rob McElhenney’.
The Taper Jean Girl rockers from the US commented on the announcement post: ‘UK! We’re coming back in May for two shows at The Racecourse Ground, Wrexham.
‘Pre-sale begins 8AM LOCAL on Wednesday, 1 March. Tickets will go on general sale 9AM LOCAL Friday, 3 March. More info at link in bio. See you soon!’
The Kings of Leon made their fame in the UK early on in their career and have fond memories of London especially, which is nodded to in their hit 2007 song Fans.

It’s unclear whether they have a link to Wales (or Wrexham for that matter), but the town will surely be delighted to welcome them.
Kings of Leon played in the UK last year at London’s O2 for their When You See Yourself tour.
