The Guardian -Revealed: how the king secretly profits from dead citizens’ assets

In its front page exclusive, the Guardian reports King Charles III is profiting from the assets of dead citizens who do not have a will or known next of kin.

The paper says the Duchy of Lancaster, a hereditary land and property estate that generates profits for the monarch, has collected tens of millions of pounds in recent years under an antiquated system dating back to feudal times.

In response to the Guardian’s piece, the Duchy of Lancaster says it is a “long-standing principle of UK law that property or goods cannot remain ‘ownerless’”.
