Justin Trudeau’s team defends Queen singalong after backlash over ‘embarrassing’ moment

The i says There are Queen tributes and then there are Queen tributes. Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau’s office has defended his behaviour after he was filmed singing Bohemian Rhapsody alongside a musician in London’s Corinthia hotel, where the Canadian delegation stayed, two days before the Queen’s funeral.

The video – filmed on the evening of Saturday 17 September – shows Mr Trudeau singing along as Gregory Charles, a musician from Quebec and recipient of the Order of Canada, plays the Queen song.

A spokesperson for Mr Trudeau confirmed the prime minister “joined a small gathering with members of the Canadian delegation, who have come together to pay tribute to the life and service of Her Majesty.”
