Julia Bradbury has shared a message close to her heart as she marked the start of 2023 by telling her fans to ‘check yourself’ after battling breast cancer.
The TV presenter, who was diagnosed in September 2021 and underwent a single mastectomy the following month, is in remission and has been sharing her journey and recovery very openly.
Taking to Instagram on Sunday to celebrate New Year’s Day, the Countryfile star shared a selfie of herself having a mammogram as she urged followers to stay on top of this crucial health check.
‘I can’t think of a better New Year message than: check yourself,’ she wrote in the caption, alongside the hashtags ‘#breastcancer’, ‘#awareness’ and ‘#checkyourself’.
Her fans responded by sharing their experiences in the comment section as one wrote: ‘Totally agree!! Check check check!!!!! I watch your documentary last week, Julia Just so proud of you! [sic]’
Another added: ‘This goes for men too! I had a scare last year. Men need to check their moobs more.’
The 52-year-old also revealed that she had already begun to make good on her promise to go outside every day of 2023, no matter the weather.
She shared a picture of herself balanced on a tree stump during a walk in the woods on Sunday to her Instagram Story, dressed in a yellow, green and black puffer jacket and warm hat.
In an interview with The Mirror, Julia had explained over the weekend: ‘I want to get daylight on my face every morning come rain or shine. I made a resolution early in the year and I want to make sure I keep doing that during 2023.’

She also shared more on her decision to abstain from alcohol during her recovery, having last had a drink for her birthday in July.
She admitted it was a ‘complicated thing’ because ‘more people are asking me about it’.
‘They say, “Are you sober now?” And I think, “God, am I? Am I sort of framing myself as somebody who wasn’t before, and all the implications?” That word is quite impactful. Are you sober now? So, yes I am,’ she shared.
At the time of her diagnosis in 2021, Julia revealed: ‘As it is I am going to lose my breast. I trust that one day I will look down on it and think that was the fight of my life and I have the ultimate battle scar to prove it.’

‘It’s incredible. To build awareness like this about breast cancer, to be nominated in such a strong category, is a real honour and it’s wonderful to be here one year after my breast cancer diagnosis. I’m just very, very grateful,’ she said.
