Candace Cameron Bure has been called out on social media over her recent comments on the representation of ‘traditional marriage’ on screen.
The Fuller House actress sparked outrage earlier this week when she spoke of her upcoming Christmas films with the Great American Family network in an interview.
‘My heart wants to tell stories that have more meaning and purpose and depth behind them,’ the 46-year-old said. ‘I knew that the people behind Great American Family were Christians that love the Lord and wanted to promote faith programming and good family entertainment.”
‘We’re really here to spread joy and to spread love and happy, good feelings.’
When asked if they would be following the lead of Hallmark, who are debuting their first original festive film with a LGBTQ+ couple at the forefront, she said no, telling the Wall Street Journal: ‘I think that Great American Family will keep traditional marriage at the core.’
Bill Abbott – who previously served as CEO of Crown Media Family Networks, family company of Hallmark, until 2020 – now runs Great American Family and offered a vague response.

‘It’s certainly the year 2022, so we’re aware of the trends. There’s no whiteboard that says, “Yes, this” or “No, we’ll never go here”,’ he added to the publication.
At the end of 2019, Bill was famously met with a wave of fury when Hallmark pulled an advert that featured two brides kissing, with the network quickly reinstating the Zola commercials.
He announced his exit from the company soon after, with the reason behind his departure not made public.

Hilarie Burton and JoJo Siwa have joined those condemning the pair over their stance regarding their Christmas slate on social media.
Sharing an article about the comments on Twitter, One Tree Hill actress Hilarie penned: ‘Now they’re just openly admitting their bigotry. I called this s**t out years ago when Abbott was at Hallmark. Glad they dumped him.
‘Being LGBTQ isn’t a “trend”. That guy and his network are disgusting. You too Candy. There is nothing untraditional about same-sex couples.’
‘Bigot. I don’t remember Jesus liking hypocrites like Candy,’ she added beside a link regarding Candace’s comments. ‘But sure. Make your money, honey.

Posting a screenshot showing Candace’s comments on Instagram, JoJo added: ‘Honestly, I can’t believe after everything that went down just a few months ago, that she would not only create a movie with intention of excluding LGBTQIA+, but then also talk about it in the press.
‘This is rude and hurtful to a whole community of people.’
