Joel Dommett has reportedly signed up to present the upcoming Survivor reboot.
The reality TV survival show is returning to the small screen almost two decades after the original series was axed and now a new report suggests The Masked Singer presenter Joel has been tapped to front the new project for the BBC.
A source told The Sun: ‘He was offered the job just before Christmas and accepted almost immediately. It is his first BBC primetime role and is a huge leap for him…
‘Joel was a massive fan of the original series and made that clear when approached. He really impressed with his passion, and work on The Masked Singer and The Masked Dancer.’
The insider added: ‘The BBC feel Survivor is going to be massive, and having Joel is the cherry on the cake.’
Survivor, a Banijay format created by Charlie Parsons, is one of the most watched reality entertainment formats around the world and is celebrating 25 years this year after the format was first employed in 1997 in Sweden.

The original UK version of the show ran for two series from 2001 until 2002 with the first season being hosted by newsreader Mark Austin and the second being helmed by cricket commentator Mark Nicholas.
Survivor is expected to return to TV next year with applications for potential contestants open until February.

Kate Phillips, Director of Unscripted at the BBC, previously said of the project: ‘Survivor is a global television hit and to be able to bring one of TV’s most successful formats to audiences in the UK in a uniquely BBC way is a very exciting prospect indeed.’
Natalka Znak, CEO Remarkable Entertainment adds that ‘Survivor is the greatest gameshow on Earth for a reason’: ‘It has everything – reality, adventure, drama, and the ultimate game. I can’t wait to be boots on the ground, working with Paul Osborne, Stephen Lovelock and the fantastic team at Remarkable to make this epic series for the BBC.’
The show is filmed on an isolated island with the survivors being left to fend for themselves while also taking part in mental and physical challenges as they compete to be named the winner.
Despite only lasting two seasons in the UK, the format has been a huge hit around the world with the American version due to broadcast its 43rd season later this year.
