Joe Biden says he ‘screwed up’ debate but vows to stay in election
President Joe Biden acknowledged his underwhelming performance in last week’s debate against Donald Trump, admitting he “screwed up.” In an interview with a Wisconsin radio station, Biden called it a “mistake” but urged voters to focus on his achievements in the White House.
Amid growing speculation about his candidacy, Biden reassured senior Democrats and campaign staff, including state governors, of his commitment to the race. “I’m the nominee of the Democratic Party. No one’s pushing me out. I’m not leaving,” he said in a call, with Vice President Kamala Harris echoing her support.

Rumours have circulated about Harris potentially replacing Biden as the party’s candidate before the November election. However, a fundraising email from the Biden-Harris campaign reinforced Biden’s stance: “Let me say this as clearly and simply as I can: I’m running,” Biden declared.
Concerns over Biden’s fitness for office intensified following the debate, where he displayed verbal stumbles and a weak voice. These issues have heightened doubts within Democratic circles about his ability to secure re-election.
Polls have shown increasing pressure on Biden, with Trump’s lead widening. A New York Times poll published Wednesday indicated Trump had a six-point lead, his largest yet, while a CBS News poll showed Trump ahead by three points in key battleground states.
I’ve never been a fan of President Donald Trump – but he’s absolutely destroying Joe Biden in this debate… Trump is also being surprisingly generous here. This is an embarrassment to the DNC #Debates2024 pic.twitter.com/eJd76h7vjp
