She might have lead England to victory in the Women’s World Cup, but Jill Scott ‘shrunk into the background’ after initially putting her hand up to compete in the next trial on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!.
On Wednesday night’s episode, the decision on who would tackle the next trial was left up to the campmates, with a debate starting over who would be next.
While Jill put her hand up and said she ‘didn’t mind doing it’, she backtracked after other names were thrown into the mix and the group settled on Matt Hancock, Mike Tindall and Owen Warner.
‘No you three go for it, that’s alright,’ she said after being asked if she didn’t mind sitting it out.
When discussing what happened on Loose Women, Thursday’s panel, which included, Kaye Adams, Kelly Holmes, Judi Love and Jane Moore, the ladies said it was something that they’d seen many times before.
‘We have Matt putting his hand up straight away and I wanted Jill to really dive in there,’ Kaye said.

‘I was shouting at the TV,’ Jane added.
‘She is an elite sportswoman and she would absolutely for it usually.’
‘She did that thing and I’ve seen it so many times with friends of mine, women friends, who will go “I would like to, but”, and all the men are like “yep, me. Obviously, me”.’
‘Women sometimes we do that thing of just sort of shrinking into the background. I mean I have seen a clip where she is actually doing the trial, so I assume they had a vote and she got to do it, and quite right too.’
As Kelly added: ‘I wonder why she got a bit meek. She is a strong, intelligent, funny woman’.
‘It’s almost like in that situation you don’t want to push yourself [forward] to much, but that’s what women do, they retreat.’
‘If you want to do it, own it.’

As the conversation continued Jane said she thought Jill might have been worried about appearing ‘bossy’ in front of her campmates, as well as on TV.
‘I think she is trying to keep the peace and conform to the environment because I’m sure it’s quite hard there to be that strong, powerful person,’ Kelly added.
‘I feel like in normal situations she would probably be right up there and I don’t know what it was around that.’
As Judi said, women had to sometimes ‘find confidence to push ourselves forward’.
‘Own yourself and know how powerful you are a woman and use that…time, life is short. It’s not going to change. You need to take control of who you are.
‘At the end of the day I champion women, we are amazing.’

While the women agreed there might have been the perception in the group that the men might be better suited to a challenge, they poked fun at Chris Moyles’ latest effort at a trial and said the women could give the blokes a run for their money pretty easily.
‘It’s not about blaming the guys for putting themselves forward, but we have to find a way for women to put themselves forward as well as confidently as the men do,’ Jane said.
We will now get to see Jill take on the trial tonight after it appears those chosen for the challenge were changed.
Alongside Mike and Owen, she’ll be tackling ‘The Scareground’.
Loose Women airs weekdays at 12:30pm on ITV.
