Jill Scott stands a chance at scooping this year’s Sports Personality of the Year following her I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! win.
The Lioness was crowned Queen of the Jungle during Sunday night’s live final, beating Hollyoaks actor Owen Warner, who came second, and former health secretary Matt Hancock, who finished third.
Since storming the ITV show with 47.3% of the vote, bookmakers William Hill are tipping Jill 33/1 to pick up the sports accolade at this year’s ceremony, which is due to take place on December 21 at MediaCityUK.
‘Though Lionesses teammate Beth Mead remains the odds-on favourite for SPOTY at just 2/9, Jill Scott has to be considered having raised her profile over the last couple of weeks,’ a spokesperson for William Hill said.
‘Mead won the Golden Boot and Player of the Tournament awards at the Women’s Euros, but Scott, who has no less than 161 England appearances and the I’m A Celeb crown, is now a household name and warrants consideration at 33/1 for the BBC end-of-year prize.’

But it’s not just Beth and Jill in the running for the title, as the bookies are also tipping cricketer Ben Stokes at 12/1, footballer Harry Kane at 12/1, and Ronnie O’Sullivan at 18/1.
Ronnie doesn’t fancy his chances at all, having only ever made the shortlist of nominations once before in 2020.
‘I won’t ever get that one,’ he said of the BBC award in May. ‘I don’t know why. I don’t think I’ll be in the hunt.

Last year’s Sports Personality of the Year trophy was awarded to tennis player Emma Raducanu after she ended Britain’s 44-year wait for a women’s Grand Slam singles champion following her victory at the US Open.
