Jenna Ortega has opened up about reprising her role of Tara Carpenter in Scream 6, teasing a tougher test for her character.
The upcoming flick, the sixth release in the slasher franchise, will be released in cinemas on March 10, with the new trailer showing Ghostface following the gang from Woodsboro to New York.
After surviving her first face-off against the masked killer in Scream 5, Tara relocates to the city for college with pals Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown) and Chad (Mason Gooding) – where her sister Sam (Melissa Barrera) tags along to in a bid to protect her.
Of course, that doesn’t quite work out as the serial killer joins them in the Big Apple, alongside Courteney Cox’s OG Gale Weathers and Hayden Panettiere – who staged a surprise comeback as the beloved Kirby Reed.
In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jenna explained that her character had to also contend with her ‘suffocating’ sibling, as well as Ghostface’s attacks.
‘At the top of the film we see my character Tara avoiding her trauma and desperately trying to reclaim her teenage experience and become normal college student,’ she said.

‘There’s a lot of tension between her and Sam, she feels as though she’s too protective and unwilling to allow them both to move on. She feels suffocated.’
Shedding light on how the characters have dealt with the drama from the previous film, Melissa added: ‘Not a lot of time has passed since the last movie. Pretty much, the amount of time that we’ve had between one movie and the other is the amount of time that has passed in their world.
‘So the trauma is still very fresh. One of my favorite parts about this movie is that we really get to see how the happenings of the last movie affected them. We get to really see the baggage that they’re carrying now and how each of them is dealing with it differently.’

Melissa recently teased what fans can expect from the next outing of the slasher franchise – admitting that directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett ramped up the blood and the scares.
‘There was a saying on set because Matt and Tyler were always asking for more blood and more sweat,’ she told Collider. ‘They always just wanted more. “More blood spritz” was the saying because they would just always want more.’

‘With the last Scream, they were tip-toeing and trying to be very respectful of what the franchise had been up until that point and keeping their inner gory dreams at bay.
‘But with this one, they were like, “We’re going all out.”’
Scream 6 is released in cinemas on March 10.
