A jealous son who attacked his mum’s new lover with a car in a revenge attack after learning of their relationship has been jailed.
Adam Dixon, 27, left former NHS consultant Tarek Youssef fighting for his life after twice running over him as the victim was trying to mediate between him and his mum Tracey.
Following the attack, Mr Youssef, who lives in Oldham, Greater Manchester, was left with fractures to 19 of his 24 ribs and a laceration to his liver and now struggles to walk unaided.
A court heard how Dixon had taken the divorce of his parents badly, and hoped his mum, a nurse, would eventually rekindle her relationship with his dad.
Instead, Tracey struck up a friendship with Tarek while they were both working together at Royal Oldham Hospital and soon became a couple, although they kept their relationship a secret from the defendant and his twin brother.
Dixon became enraged upon learning of his mum’s new relationship and stalked her for several days prior to the attack, following her in his car and even threatening her with a knife.
Prosecutor Hugh Barton told Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester: ‘Whilst driving she realised her son was following her after recognising his registration plates. She pulled over and he followed.
‘He pulled out a knife and demanded she tell him who she was seeing and told her if he saw someone he would kill him.’

Things came to a head on October 29, 2021, when Tarek and Tracey returned home from a shopping trip to find the defendant parked outside the house and hiding behind a wall.
‘When they were inside, they looked out the window and saw that the defendant had parked right in front of the house,’ Mr Barton explained.
‘Mr Youssef went outside to talk to the defendant, who was sitting in his car with the engine on.
‘Tracey, who was watching from inside, saw the two shouting at each other in a heated exchange.
‘When it seemed like the exchange was over and Mr Youssef turned around to walk inside, she saw the defendant drive across the front lawn and straight towards Mr Youssef who was standing by the front door.
‘Mr Youssef saw the car heading towards him and moved out of the way, however, the defendant turned with him and hit him.
‘The defendant’s front and rear wheels drove over Youssef leaving him incapacitated and unconscious on the floor. It was at that point that the defendant chose to run over Mr Youssef again.’

In a statement, Tarek said: ‘I have lost interest in life since this incident. I don’t enjoy eating or drinking. It’s changed my life forever and I have lost interest in life.’
Dixon was initially charged with attempted murder but pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent, which was accepted. He was sentenced to 13 years and four months, nine years of which will be spent in prison before he is eligible for parole.
An indefinite restraining order was also imposed which prohibited Dixon from contacting Tarek or going within 100 metres of any address where he is.
As the sentence was passed Dixon’s identical twin brother Jake, who was sitting in the public gallery, launched into an aggressive outburst at the judge.
He shouted ‘f**k you, what do you know, c**t?’ and stormed through to the court floor in an attempt to ‘have a go at her’ before being subdued by defence lawyers.
Mark Fireman, representing Dixon, said the defendant may have been suffering from schizophrenia at the time of the attack.
‘He entered a guilty plea at the earliest opportunity and has fully accepted that he would be going to prison for his actions,’ he added.
‘He has told me he now wants to be a model prisoner.’
Sentencing Dixon, Judge Tina Landale told him: ’I believe this was a case of revenge after the loss of hope of reunification of your parents.
‘You are a dangerous offender and the risk of harm remains. Although it is not appropriate to impose a life sentence, I believe an extended sentence is justified.’
