The nominations have been announced for the Oscars 2023 and Jamie Lee Curtis has received her first-ever nod.

The iconic screen star, 64, will be up for the best supporting actress gong at this year’s ceremony for her performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Curtis marked the momentous milestone shortly after the full nominations list was announced on Tuesday, posting a photo of herself reacting to the news while also noting the achievement was ‘never even in my wildest dream box’.

In one social media post, Curtis explained that one of her closest friends and a fellow filmmaker text her shortly before this year’s nominations were announced and asked if she wanted company while watching the big reveal.

Looking at her TV, Curtis could be seen with her hand clasped over her mouth and explained the photo was captured at the exact time her name was read out.

In a second photo, Curtis looks at the camera with her mouth wide open, which she explained was her reaction to finding out her friend and Everything Everywhere All at Once co-star Stephanie Hsu had also received a nomination in the category.

She also shared a photo of her parents – Hollywood icons Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh – Curtis with her 4.8million Instagram followers and said she was ‘stunned’ and ‘humbled’ by the nomination.

The Halloween star also shared a photo of Everything Everywhere All at Once’s cast and crew.

Curtis penned a lengthy caption that read: ‘It was never even in my wildest dream box.

‘I have always felt very much like an outsider looking in and yet always so grateful for any and all opportunities I have had.’

The star went on: ‘Being a part of this beautiful movie, which just received so many acknowledgments for our talented, motley crew of artists, is the highlight of my professional life.

‘As this is a movie about a family of immigrants and their struggles through life, immediately I’m thinking of my parents, children of immigrants from Hungary and Denmark, whose families came here and sacrificed for their children to achieve their dreams.’

Curtis concluded: ‘I can only imagine what it would feel like for them and their parents to hear that their daughter/granddaughter was nominated this morning for an Oscar.

‘I am stunned and humbled and excited for our little movie that could and did and based on today’s nominations, continues to do and do and do.’

Action comedy Everything Everywhere All at Once took the Oscar nominations by storm this week.

The flick stars Michelle Yeoh – who bagged a best actress nomination for her performance – as a launderette owner who traverses different parallel universes in a bid to fight evil.

Curtis and Yeoh’s co-star Hsu was also announced as a best supporting actress nominee and their film will also compete for best picture, director, costume design, editing, original song and original screenplay on the night.

On Tuesday, actress Allison Williams and actor Riz Ahmed served as nominations presenters, from the Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Top Gun: Maverick, Elvis, Avatar: The Way of Water and the Banshees of Inisherin were all mentioned in the top categories.

It was a big moment for Paul Mescal, Bill Nighy and Colin Farrell, who earned their first Oscar nominations for best actor, thanks to their stints in Aftersun, Living and The Banshees of Inisherin.

They will be battling it out against Elvis star Austin Butler and Brendan Fraser for the Whale.

Ana de Armas will have all eyes on her at the upcoming ceremony, landing a best actress nomination for Blonde beside Cate Blanchett in Tar, Andrea Riseborough for To Leslie, The Fabelmans’ Michelle Williams and Yeoh.

While Tom Cruise was snubbed in the acting categories, his Top Gun: Maverick sequel has been mentioned in the best film category.

It might be a tough selection as the action flick is up against All Quiet on the Western Front, James Cameron’s epic Avatar: The Way of Water, The Banshees of Inisherin, Elvis and Tar.

As well as Everything Everywhere All at Once, The Fabelmans, Triangle of Sadness and Women Talking are also in the mix for the top gong.

Jimmy Kimmel will be on hand to host the awards ceremony in March and is no stranger to the stage, having already helmed proceedings in 2017 and 2018.

‘Being invited to host the Oscars for a third time is either a great honor or a trap,’ the late-night talk show presenter said of the news at the time. 

‘Either way, I am grateful to the Academy for asking me so quickly after everyone good said no.’

In a chat with Extra about what viewers can expect on the night, he insisted that he wouldn’t be shying away from making jokes about last year’s event – when Will Smith stormed on stage to slap Chris Rock, in scenes that left everyone reeling.

‘It’s got to come up in some way,’ he admitted to the publication.

‘You know, I don’t want to really make light of it necessarily, because it wasn’t [funny] to comedians.

‘You know, comedians are mad about it…it’s one of those things that for a group of people that find everything funny, it’s not funny, you know?’

The 95th Academy Awards will be taking place on Sunday, March 12, in LA, with some of the biggest names in the industry piling up to walk the red carpet.
