The Masked Singer came to a close tonight, and it seems James Arthur was counting down after people became convinced he was one of the contestants.
Throughout the season, the 34-year-old singer was speculated by many to be the famous face hiding underneath the Rhino mask.
While there weren’t many links between the clues and the singer, just hearing the voice belting out the songs on stage was enough to convince people James had signed up for the reality series.
However when Rhino was ultimately named the winner, he was revealed to be Busted’s Charlie Simpson.
It was clearly a relief for James, who responded soon after.
‘Charlie Simpson I’d know that voice anywhere,’ he shared alongside an emoji of clapping hands.

‘One of the best out there #maskedsinger now everyone p*** off and leave me alone,’ he added.
Many people commented saying that they had a suspicion it wasn’t him on the show, while others admitted they’d been totally hoodwinked by how similar his and Charlie’s voices sound.

The other two reveals in the final also surprised some, with former All Saints singer Nicole Appleton revealed as Fawn and Kaiser Chiefs front-man Ricky Wilson unmasked as Phoenix.
Charlie admitted he ‘never expected’ to win the show, joking that his biggest fear was forgetting his lyrics.

Speaking in a Q&A post-reveal, he said: ‘I never expected to win, to be honest, but I just wanted to give it my best. I had no idea who I was actually up against and didn’t really hear the other people sing as we were kept away from each other during filming.’
Charlie added: ‘I was very happy when Joel called my name. I have never been in a singing competition before so I found the whole thing quite surreal.’
The Masked Singer is streaming on ITVX.
