Jacob (Jack James Ryan) gets a visit from the Ghost of Christmas Past in Coronation Street soon when he bumps into a very unwelcome face. A new video clip reveals the encounter, which happens in the Christmas market as Jacob is picking up some food.
He’s hailed by a mystery man and it’s clear from Jacob’s reaction that he’s not happy to see him. The man says, ‘I thought I’d come and say hello before I go.’
Jacob keeps walking, refusing to meet the man’s gaze. ‘You mean goodbye. Safe flight home, yeah?’ he says, turning down the offer of a pint.
Jacob literally looks like he’s seen a ghost, but the man is, in fact, his father Damon (Ciaran Griffiths).
As the storyline unfolds we’ll see that Damon has hardly been a presence in his son’s life and Jacob wants nothing to do with him now he’s established a nice life for himself in Weatherfield.
But it seems Damon is determined to stick around and soon starts pushing for a business opportunity at the bistro.

He’s also doing his best to get back into his son’s life, but it’s not a touchy-feely reunion he has in mind, as Ciaran Griffiths explained.

‘He’s definitely got an ulterior motive, he makes out that he’s back to make amends with Jacob, he slowly starts to build up his trust, but I think that will be to let him back down again. He’s just using Jacob for his own benefit, which you get the impression he’s done for a lot of his life. Damon is just all out for what he can get for himself.’
Corrie producer Iain MacLeod told us that, ‘Damon is charming and likeable on the surface but we will soon see he is much more complicated than that as he goes on to have an explosive impact, both in Jacob’s life and beyond.’
Ah, nothing like the Ghost of Christmas Past.
