Ivan Toney is fit and available to start for Brentford when they host Bournemouth on Saturday, confirms Thomas Frank.
The 26-year-old suffered an injury during the 2-0 win over West Ham in the Premier League on 30 December and has missed the two matches since then.
The Bees were fine without him as they downed Liverpool 3-1 in the Premier League, although they then lost to the Hammers in the FA Cup last time out.
PA Sport report that Toney has now recovered, though, and will be available to play from the start in the 5.30pm kick-off on Saturday when the Bees host the Cherries.
It is something of a surprise that Toney has been out for this long as Frank suggested he could play against Liverpool on 2 January when speaking about the injury on New Year’s Day.
‘It’s good news with Ivan, it’s not a significant injury,’ Frank said on 1 January. ‘He could potentially be available for tomorrow.
‘There’s nothing wrong with his knee. Without going too much into the details, it’s something with the muscle.
‘The physios explained the details and I completely forgot! I’m just glad it isn’t serious.’
The Brentford boss will be delighted to have Toney back as he has been in superb form this season, scoring 12 goals in 16 Premier League games.
Last season was his first in the Premier League with the Bees and he netted a respectable 12 in 33 appearances, so he is set to smash that total this time around, as long as he stays fit from here on in.
