Days into the start of Love Island 2023, Maya Jama has already taken fans by storm as the new host of the ITV2 series.
Having stunned in a colourful green dress during her debut in the villa in South Africa, she then left jaws on the floor when she turned up in a black cut-out number while heading back in the evening.
However, viewers were left absolutely staggered during Wednesday night’s episode when a song by the 28-year-old’s ex-boyfriend, Stormzy, played in the background.
Not only that, but the track by the 29-year-old rapper – Hide & Seek – is strongly believed to have been about her, having broken up in 2019.
The song in question played while Tanya Mahenga and Ron Hall were on dates with the two new bombshells, David Salako and Zara Deniz Lackenby-Brown.
The lyrics include: ‘Oh, girl, you’re shining. You know you’re my diamond,’ before he sings: ‘Heartbreak’s such a dark place but we stay in it.’
Fans wondered if Maya was aware the song would be played (Picture: ITV2)

Flabbergasted viewers couldn’t believe the choice of music, with one tweeting: ‘Not them playing one of Stormzy’s love songs to Maya right now knowing she’s the host and watching.’
‘Stormzy made sure Maya was going hear Hide & Seek by any means necessary,’ another said, while another remarked: ‘Them playing a Stormzy song about Maya is killing me.’
One viewer dubbed ITV ‘cheeky’ for the song selection, as another stated: ‘Love Island playing Stormzy Hide & Seek within 3 episodes as soon as Maya becomes host.’
While Maya is the new host of Love Island, having taken over from Laura Whitmore for the first time this year, Stormzy also has history with the programme.
In 2017, the rapper inadvertently caused drama in the villa when a tweet he posted about Chris Hughes and Olivia Attwood was featured during a challenge, where he wrote: ‘Chris, you’re too good for her mate.’
Later on in the series, he dialled in for a video chat with the remaining contestants, during which Olivia confronted him about his remark.
‘Oh hey, babe,’ Olivia said coolly to the rapper, as he covered his head in embarrassment.
‘Liv, no hard feelings!’ he exclaimed, before laughing.
The dates on tonight’s episode of Love Island proved to be potential turning points for several of the islanders, as Ron admitted his head was on a swivel after being left impressed by newcomer Zara.
This could leave Lana Jenkins – who Ron’s coupled up with – in a vulnerable position, if he decides to pursue a romance with the bombshell instead.
On the other hand, Tanya still appears to have a strong attraction with Shaq Muhammad, having shared a steamy kiss with him in bed.
However, could she end up seeing where things go with David, as Shaq also shows interest in Zara after her show-stopping entrance?
Love Island returns tomorrow at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
