We’ve had Christmas, New Year and everything in-between – or betwixtmas, as some have dubbed it.
The fireworks around the world saw out 2022 in style, and made it a lot easier for us all to know what date it was – January 1, 2023.
But after the holidays, getting back into the swing of things can be hard. Which is why a bank holiday would be most welcome. Is today (January 3) one?
Is today a bank holiday?
The answer is… it depends. It’s great news if you live in Scotland because, yes, today is indeed a bank holiday.
In Scotland, January 2 is a bank holiday.
But, because this year, January 2 is already a substitute holiday for New Year’s Day (which landed on a Sunday), January 3 is the substitute holiday day for the January 2 bank holiday.

In England and Wales, January 3 is not a bank holiday.
The next bank holiday for England and Wales is Good Friday, on April 7.
In Northern Ireland, the next bank holiday is March 17, for St Patrick’s Day.
There is good news for everyone in the UK, though, as we all get an extra bank holiday in 2023.
For King Charles’ coronation on Saturday, May 6, we’ll get the following Monday (May 8) off.
