Iran-aligned group suspends attacks against US after drone strike
An Iraqi militant group, suspected of orchestrating a drone strike in Jordan resulting in the deaths of three US soldiers, has declared a suspension of operations against the US. Kataib Hezbollah, the Iran-aligned group claiming responsibility for the Sunday attack, cited the move as a measure “to prevent embarrassment of the Iraqi government.”
Joe Biden recently said he has decided on a response to the attack in Jordan but did not disclose details. Iran, denying involvement in the incident, issued a warning of retaliation against any assault on its “interests.”
The US has hinted at a potential armed response in multiple phases.
Kataib Hezbollah’s Secretary-General, Abu Hussein al-Hamidawi, stated on Tuesday that they would not conduct further attacks on the US. He emphasised the suspension of military and security operations against occupation forces while pledging continued defence of their people in Gaza through alternative means.
The drone attack, allegedly using an Iranian-made drone, occurred along the Jordan-Syrian border at Tower 22, resulting in the deaths of three US soldiers and injuring many others.
